In this time of political unrest and uncertainty, Black artists are coming together to push for change through their creative pursuits. Black Art Rising, a virtual exhibition sponsored by LIFEWTR, highlights the work of eight such eight artists. Giving space to artwork from across a range of disciplines, the exhibition showcases works of art by Tobe Nwigwe, Reyna Noriega, Temi Coker, Thomas Evans (aka Detour), Shae Anthony, Dr. Fahamu Pecou, Max Sansing and Lauren “Lo” Harris. Biba Adams for The Grio, spoke with some of the artists to learn more about their practice and how they are dealing with our current sociopolitical moment.

“Throughout history [art] is the records of our human experience, documented in paintings, sculpture, music and, more recently, film and television where we get the opportunity to not just be made aware of our history but to understand it.” - Dr. Fahamu Pecou
