The AGBS Salon Series is a set of conversations around the artwork in the AGBS and related collections. The series featured brief presentations by graduate students on a chosen artwork and also placed these speakers in conversation with a UT Austin faculty member. The Salon Series was moderated and organized by Nicole Smythe-Johnson, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Art and Art History and 2021-2022 Christian-Green Fellow.

The Salon Series kicked off with a conversation between Ph.D. candidate Nicole Smythe-Johnson, and lawyer and collector Rudolph "Rudy" Green. They discussed Green's art collection and its development. The Christian-Green Gallery is named for Green and his wife Joyce Christian. Both made a significant donation of artwork to Black Studies in 2016 and continue to support AGBS as part of their commitment to the study of Black diasporic culture at UT Austin.

For the second event in the series, Art History Ph.D. student Chasitie Brown examined the work of Cuban artist Belkis Ayón. Brown focused on Ayón's artwork, Sin tÃtulo (Sikán con chivo), which is housed in the Christian-Green collection. She was joined by Dr. George Flaherty, Director of the Center for Latin American Visual Studies (CLAVIS).

In this talk, Jennifer Sales, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Art + Art History, introduced viewers to Werllayne Nunes' artwork, Rainha do Mar. After her presentation, Sales conversed with Dr. Lorraine Leu, from the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at UT Austin, about the painting and Nune's practice.
