Writing for AnOther magazine, Belle Hutton looks to the Tate Modern, London's exhibition Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power. Hutton takes readers on a crash course on the pioneering artists of the Black Power Movement and traces their influence to today's contemporary Black creators and makers.
Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power will be on view at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston from June 27 through August 30, its final stop during a three-year tour.
“In these works, and in countless others, is the power of art to uplift, showcase, describe and demonstrate the black experience – sometimes in uncomfortable but entirely necessary, vital ways." - Belle Hutton
