In this feature for Hyperallergic, Sarah Rose Sharp highlights the work of the influential quiltmakers of Gee’s Bend, Alabama. This rural and isolated Black community along the Alabama River have nurtured generation upon generation of fiber artists. Now, this community artists has partnered with Nest, a non-profit organization concerned with the expansion of the handworker economy. Launching on February 1st, the quiltmakers of Gee’s Bend are now selling their exquisite creations on Etsy.
