AWA: la revue de la femme noire, the earliest independent African women’s magazine (1964-1973) has been digitized and is now available to peruse online! Produced in Dakar, Senegal, AWA contains short stories, readers' letters, and political essays, as well as content related to fashion, home-furnishings, and cooking. Set against the backdrop of Cold War politics and new formulations of Afro-modernity, AWA held space for important dialogues and information that were affecting women’s lives.
