In 2018, La Tanya Autry presented at the University of Texas's Blanton Museum of Art symposium "Facing Racism: Art and Action." Presenters from across the US discussed the ways in which their work contributes to socially engaged art and scholarship. In her presentation, Autry highlighted that museums are not neutral institutions, and focused on how teaching institutions regularly uphold an artistic canon that excludes marginalized artists and voices.
