For photographer Kennedi Carter, intimacy can serve as a healing force in the face of crisis. As Jacqui Palumbo writes in Artsy, Carter's images take their inspiration from the art of her childhood home, as well as contemporary Black women photographers such as Deana Lawson and Carrie Mae Weems. Through her focus on tenderness, Carter offers an expansive view of Black life that moves beyond images of suffering or struggle.
