Grace Lynne Haynes Is The 27-Year-Old Painter Behind Your Favorite 'New Yorker' Covers

AGBS

“Trendsetters”, New Yorker Cover, September 7, 2020 Artist Grace Lynne Haynes discusses her evocative paintings, which have most recently graced the covers of the New Yorker, in this interview with Rose Minutaglio for ELLE.

“My dark feminine figures represent elegance, beauty, and tranquility. The light colors surrounding the figure create a contrast that elevates her. From a young age I've noticed that the darker you are the less feminine you are perceived to be. I show a safe haven for Blackness, and a purity untainted by the world.”
