Known as the first African-American woman cartoonist, Jackie Ormes created fashion-forward illustrations that radically changed the face of comics and cartoons. Her comics, such as Torchy Brown and Patty-Jo 'n' Ginger, presented Black women as both fashionable and politically-minded.
