The Nelson-Atkin Museum of Art’s 2019 exhibition, 30 Americans, explored American experiences as told from the perspective of 30 African American artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Carrie Mae Weems, and Kerry James Marshall. A playlist was created to accompany the show. This selection of songs was curated by members of Kansas City’s community advisory board for the exhibition.
