As we step into a new year, many museum professionals are reflecting on the future of the field and how museums will continue to serve their audiences and artists. In an interview for Art Review, Tom Eccles speaks with the president of the Ford Foundation, Darren Walker, to discuss how philanthropy in the arts, and reckon with what museums have faced amidst the Black Lives Matter Movement. While some may be skeptical about the future of museums, Walker has hope that museums are ready to step up and serve their communities, and commit themselves to diversity and inclusion.

"At the end of the day, one important function of the arts is to tell us who we are as a people, and to playback for us the narrative of America. We know that the arts have not fully engaged in that narrative, that the arts have, in many ways, served to perpetuate partial storytelling of American history and culture." - Darren Walker
