In a 2017 TED talk, artist Titus Kaphur hosted a live workshop, taking a paintbrush to a replica of a 17th-century Frans Hals painting. In doing so, Kaphur argued that "painting is a visual language," asking audience members to think critically about the narratives embedded within works of art.
