Originally dedicated to spotlighting Black punk musicians in a predominantly white subculture, Afropunk has expanded to include hip-hop, soul, and R&B music in its lineup. This year marks the festival's largest expansion with "Planet Afropunk: Past, Present, and Future is Black," a free and virtual experience that will run from October 23rd-25th. The festival will feature celebrated music artists, hosts panel discussions, as well as immersive gallery experiences, and more. With the the title "Past, Present, and Future is Black," the event also affirms music and art's role in fighting for radical change and justice, and that such fights have been "central to the Black experience across space and time."
